A Day in Photos

I haven't been taking pictures for some time now and I've been missing it very much lately.  I was inspired by some other bloggers that sometimes post a day in pictures.  I've decided to start doing this every once in awhile.  I tried to do a photo for every hour, but I'm afraid I missed a few near the end.  This is my attempt at making my regular day somewhat interesting.

Mayfield Park

On Monday, Josh and I finally got to check out Mayfield Park!  Well, to be honest, we tried to go on Saturday, but there were people there and I'm pretty sure it was a wedding party.  So, we went back on Monday and actually went into the park.  It's really pretty!  I am about 95% sure this is the place where we will be married and party at (aka have the reception).  Here are some photos:

Ponds!

Pond flowers!

A pretty legit tower!

They gots peacocks!

Nice cottage!

Nice cottage-extended!  (Along with people photographing a baby destroying a cake)

Did I mention the peacocks?!
So, basically, it's awesome.  I really cannot wait to be married.  Is that weird to say?  Most people don't want the "ol' ball and chain."  I, personally, want to be tied down to the most awesome person I've ever met who also happens to be the love of my life and my best friend.  Just sayin'.

Garden Loot!

I realize I haven't done a garden update for awhile and, to be quite honest, it's because the garden doesn't have the same vigor and aliveness as it did in the beginning.  Texas heat is here in full force and it makes my plants visibly sad.  I've been double watering almost every night to literally water 'em back life, but some of them just can't get enough.  I had an infestation of flea beetles about a week ago, but I looked them up online and their lifespan is very short, so they are long gone now.  I mention them because my zucchini and yellow squash plants are a bit worn away at the lower stem where it meets the soil.  I'm not sure if I should blame the beetles or the fact that I let multiple plants grow out of one place without narrowing it down to one.  Either way, I'm not sure how much longer they will survive.  Also, thanks to the summer heat, I got a bunch of starter cucumbers that concluded their existence by shriveling up and dying.  Then, I got really excited about my tomatillo and tomato blooms until the plants got upset and dropped them.

But, in spite of all my losses, I had a few triumphs this week.  While watering the other night, I moved zucchini leaves to discover this monster:

Yes, I'm a nerd and put a ruler beside it for scale.  Can you believe my sad little garden produced an eight inch zucchini?!  I think it did it just to cheer me up after all the other disappointments.  Then, today when I got home from work, I knew I had some bush beans that I guessed were about ready to be picked (I really have no idea if they were ready of not, I guess I'll find out when I try to eat under grown bush beans), so I was out there picking away.  All of a sudden I noticed an alien-looking crooked cucumber that was definitely not there yesterday.  This is today's harvest:

I'm honestly not sure if that cucumber is safe to eat, it looks pretty wild.  And, to tell you the truth, I don't even like cucumbers.  It just happened to come in the seed pack I bought for this garden.  I have you know, I will try it because I grew it.  Here's hoping it doesn't suck!

Weezer!

At the end of last week, I noticed my friend Judith had a facebook status that said something like, "I have an extra ticket to Weezer, message or call if you want to buy it."  At first I thought I shouldn't spend the money.  Then, I thought to myself, "what other time in the history of ever is Weezer going to play the entire Blue Album in one show?"  Then, I answered myself with a "probably never."  I'd also like to note that I missed the Deftones show the previous week which my friends Lily and Javi did go to.  After watching Lily's YouTube videos from the show and really regretting not going, I decided I shouldn't pass up any more opportunities at wonderful shows with a great nostalgia factor.  So, I consulted Josh who assured me it was fine if I went without him because he was definitely unwilling to spend the money.  Then, I sent Judith a message on facebook and awaited a reply.  I think it was meant to be because Judith still had the ticket just one day before the show!

So, Monday came, I picked up my ticket, then headed downtown to meet up with Lily and Javi to stand in a mega-line to get into Stubb's.  Once we got in, we walked around for a bit, then found a spot to get settled in while we waited for the opening band (which was taking forever!).  And, just as we thought we had run out of sweat to sweat, Weezer pulled a fast one on us and came out to play (no opening band required, yessss)!  They started with the hits, from newest to oldest.  Then, they took a little break while Karl showed a pretty awesome slideshow of old photos and band flyers.  After that, Weezer came back out and played the entire Blue Album.  It was an awesome show!  After the show, Lily, Javi, and I went to wait for Weezer to come out and say, "hello."  But, to our semi-sadness, they pulled another fast one on us and made a quick getaway in their one of many white vans.  Even with that little bummer, it was worth every penny.

Rivers!

Hip, hip!

Intermission sweatiness.

Oh yeah, speaking of trying not to ever miss another awesome show with a great nostalgia factor, I just bought Josh and I tickets to see Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance in Dallas this September.  Total score!
